Pastor’s Biography

Bro. Sammy Wallace is a native of Colbert County.  He was born (June 9, 1954) and raised at Littleville, AL.  Bro. Sammy along with his parents, Faye & Harvey Wallace, and his sister, Susie, all were members of North Highland Baptist Church in Littleville.  Bro. Sammy was a charter member by Baptism after accepting Christ as his Savior on March 23, 1963.

On June 27, 1970, Bro. Sammy surrendered to the ministry at his home church.  He was licensed to the ministry on Dec. 14, 1970.  During his high school (Russellville High School) and college (University of North Alabama) years, Bro. Sammy was available for supply preaching and Youth Revivals.  While he was not preaching, he remained active in his home church.

In June 1975, Bro. Sammy accepted the position as full-time Summer Youth Director at the First Baptist Church, Lawrenceburg, TN.  The position was extended into the fall, on a part-time basis as Bro. Sammy entered his senior year at UNA.  On Dec. 14, 1975, Bro. Sammy was ordained to the ministry at First Baptist Church, Lawrenceburg, TN.

Bro. Sammy’s first pastoral position was at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Five Points, TN.  He served as interim pastor from March 1976 – Feb 1977.  Bro. Sammy graduated from UNA in May 1976, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree, with honors.  He had a double major in Math and Education.  Bro. Sammy was married to his wife, the former Debbie Scoggins of Tuscumbia, AL, while serving at this church (July 10, 1976).  Bro Sammy taught math in the Huntsville, AL school system in the fall of 1976.

Bro. Sammy accepted the call as bivocational pastor at Bonnertown Baptist Church, Bonnertown, TN, in March of 1977.  He and Debbie moved in to the Pastorium, and he started teaching in the Lawrence County School system in the fall of 1977.  Their first daughter, Felicia was born while they were at Bonnertown.

In Nov. 1979, Bro. Sammy retired from teaching and accepted a call at his first full-time pastorate – Liberty Baptist Church, near Central, AL.  While serving at this small church, their second daughter, Angie, was born.

In July of 1981, Bro. Sammy began his ministry at Harmony Baptist Church, near Moulton, AL.  While serving at this church, their son, Jamie was born.  In the fall of 1984, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary opened a satellite school in Birmingham.  That fall he enrolled in the first class of the four-year program to receive his Master of Divinity Degree.

In 1986 Bro. Sammy had his first opportunity to serve back in Colbert County.  In May of 1986, he accepted the call as pastor of Ford City Baptist Church, near Leighton, AL.    In May of 1988, Bro. Sammy graduated from NOBTS with his Master of Divinity Degree, with a major in Pastoral Ministries.

In Jan. 1990, Bro. Sammy began serving as pastor of Enon Baptist Church, Speake, AL. During the 1990 church year, Enon was honored as being one of the top 100 churches in baptisms in the state of Alabama (actually # 72).

In Oct. 1993, Bro. Sammy accepted the call as pastor from the First Baptist Church in Phil Campbell, AL.  Twice during his ministry there, the church lead the Franklin County Baptist Associations in Baptisms.  Debbie and Bro. Sammy also represented the state of Alabama as Revival team to the state of Hawaii.  While at FBC, PC Bro. Sammy also began participating in the Associations Mission Building program and helped build seven different churches across North America.  All three of their children graduated from Phil Campbell High School during their ministry there.

Finally, after 25 years of pastoral experience, Bro. Sammy began his ministry here at York Terrace on Jan. 1, 2002.  In March 2002, Angie was married to Kenneth Parker, and they now reside in Phil Campbell, AL.  In Jan. 2003, Felicia was married to Andy Rutledge, and they reside in Harvest, AL.  Bro. Sammy and Debbie purchased their first home in Oct. 2002, after living in pastoriums for 25 years.  God has continued to bless York Terrace with many people being saved, and several additions from people moving into our area.

Bro. Sammy’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, and gardening.  But one of his favorite things to do is to simply talk with people.
